It is my pleasure today to share with you a video interview that I did with Massimo Polello – an amazing Italian artist / calligrapher. I am excited to share this video interview with you for several reasons. First of all, he is an extraordinary artist who has many insightful things to share about his creative process, how he deals with creative block, where he derives his artistic inspiration along with his advice to beginners interested in exploring Calligraphy. I also love all the rich visual content in the video including an exploration of several interesting projects that Massimo has worked on.
Finally, I am excited to announce that I will be co-teaching a workshop with Massimo that will be taking place in Vancouver, British Columbia during the summer of 2017. The course is called Order and Chaos, Fire and Ice and will explore the exciting possibilities when you pair Calligraphy with Encaustic Painting. This week long intensive might appeal to those of you who have either a calligraphy background and want to explore the wonderful world of wax, or encaustic painters who are wanting to incorporate more text and mark making into their artistic practice. The program is already half full and I’d love to have you join us! You can learn more about that workshop here.
On a final note I will be exploring the role of curiosity in our creative process and how we can foster that essential creative ingredient in my next blog post. I love what Massimo had to say about how he became interested in calligraphy in the first place at the tender age of 5 or 6 and I’d like you to start thinking about when you first remember becoming curious about and interested in your particular medium or field of creativity.
Please let me know what you think about the video and what the biggest take aways are for you.
Until next month I wish you joyous creating.
