“It is my belief that we make great strides in our creativity by taking little steps.” I think Julia Cameron hit the nail on the head with this quote. Small, consistent actions are key to the “great strides” we want to make with our art and our lives overall.
If you have been struggling to make improvements or progress with your skill development, completion of works, or any other endeavour, consider how you can break those actions into smaller and smaller steps that guarantee success. For example, if you have been avoiding your studio – start with 5 minutes a day. What small action could you take in those 5 minutes? Then grow those minutes into 7 and then 10 and so on. Could you wake up half an hour early to get in 20 solid minutes of writing before heading off to work? You get the idea.
Remember…think baby steps…the smallest steps you can take in the direction of your goals will ultimately get you there, and momentum creates more of itself. Speaking of momentum, by sharing some of your baby steps below you might inspire others to take similar actions, and this is how we can support and encourage each other as creators.
