I’ll admit, I like rituals and traditions. I like the rituals and traditions of special holidays but I also like to create rituals to celebrate the more mundane aspects of life. For example, I have established rituals around entering the studio space prior to creating and exiting the studio space after creating, rituals with my journal writing, rituals around greeting the day and so forth. Somehow it seems to elevate these simple routines into a sacred or special act. I have recently established a new tradition that will take place every year in my birthday month of October.
As some of you will know, last year I turned 50. To celebrate that event I partnered with 50 amazing family members and friends to have a little “art adventure”. If you want to learn more about that project – Love and Gratitude – you could visit my website www.nancycrawfordartist.com to watch a video about the project and see a gallery of the 100 images created for that event. That project was so much fun! It was exciting and unpredictable and challenging on a variety of levels.
It was so fun in fact that it has inspired me to establish an annual event every fall where I will share my creativity in some way, partnering with others in the process. I have no idea what I’ll be doing in the future, but it is exciting to contemplate. I have included a link here if you are interested in checking out a video about this years project – Ever More Love and Gratitude – and once again you could view a gallery of images created on my website www.nancycrawfordartist.com
I hope that these little art adventures might inspire you to create a little ritual of your own. Maybe it will be something that you do once a week, once a month, once a year, or even once a decade. The frequency is not the point. The point is to create an event, a ritual or tradition that you will look forward to and share with others in some way. It’s a way to make the process of living and creating even more special. It’s a way to create and experience more joy!
